At IPWEA NZ’s 34th AGM on Friday 24 September, the board election results were announced. As a result, we are thrilled to welcome back Nicola Chisnall for another 1 year term, and to welcome first time Board members George Bowman, Steve Browning and Fleur Tytheridge. We are excited to welcome such expertise, experience and dynamism to the Board.
Since George gained his BSc (Hons) in Geography and Environmental Management from the University of the West of England in 2015, his career has moved from strength to strength. He worked in Flood & Coastal Risk Management for the UK’s Environment Agency before moving to New Zealand, where he worked as a Flood Risk Engineer at Greater Wellington Regional Council for 2.5 years, before setting up his own consultancy, Asset BowManagement Ltd.
George will inject a new energy to the group and unleash his passions to help strengthen existing and new initiatives of IPWEA NZ, including:
- Growing the IPWEA tribe;
- Countering the public works skills shortage, particularly engineering and asset management; and
- Raising the profile of Flood Protection and River Management (commonly under-represented as the 4th water). There is room to create stronger relationships with this sector, provide more sector-specific training where there is currently gaps, and convert more tamariki into river practitioners.
George has previously served time as the Branch Secretary for Wellington/Taranaki, and is part of the IPWEA Training Working Group providing support for the AM Digital Badges.
Steve is an asset management specialist with experience working with infrastructure assets in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Canada. As the Director of Strategic Asset Solutions Ltd, he currently enjoys providing strategic advice to asset owning organisations, helping them apply technology to optimise their decision making and tell their infrastructure investment stories.
Steve has worked on all sides of the infrastructure management process; client, consultant, and contractor, and has a robust understanding of construction and maintenance. He has worked across the infrastructure spectrum, specialising in the transport, property, and water sectors, and enjoys cross pollinating best practice from each sector.
Steve is a skilled negotiator and an experienced communicator, who has delivered asset management training to staff at all levels of organizational seniority. He is passionate about raising the profile of infrastructure asset management and has recently been leading the IPWEA NZ training working group to develop the next generation of asset management training.
Nicola is Team Leader Investment Planning at Wellington Water. She has worked in and around local government in the three waters area for the last 22 years, with the last 17 in asset management.
Nicola has enjoyed her last two years on the IPWEA NZ Board, a period with unique challenges including the response to covid restrictions, the introduction of the digital badges and the increase in IPWEA NZ staffing capability.
Nicola is excited to continue to contribute to this evolving organisation to support the industry in such a complex environment, dealing with various reforms, changing legislation and big infrastructure challenges. Nicola is passionate about making sure IPWEA NZ evolves with this environment, and that members have the necessary skill sets to thrive and continue to be successful especially in asset management.
Outside of work, Nicola spends much time providing taxi services for her daughter, watching her netball and football games, playing hockey and walking.
Fleur is the Regional Sales Manager at Thinkproject, a Member of the Institute of Directors and a Massey University alumna of the Executive MBA with First Class Honours.
A technology enthusiast focused on digital innovation and its adoption in the AECO industry, Fleur has over 17 years’ experience in public and private sectors in a variety of governance, leadership and operational roles.
Before moving to New Zealand in 2010, Fleur was IT Manager & Governance Lead for an organisation of England’s NHS. Since then, she has worked with leading technology solution providers across multiple industries, including several years experience with Local Government and construction.
Fleur is a high-performing, resilient and agile leader with success in strategy development to support economic, environmental and social performance. Her contribution to the Board will continue to elevate its high level of competency and effectiveness. Fleur is committed to supporting and accelerating best practice principles, as well as fostering collaboration and thought leadership within the Board.
